The Classic Rock Album this week was David Bowie's - Man Who Sold the World. His first REAL album. You know, where he gets REAL. REAL Bowie.

At the time of it's release (in 1970 he was a bit of a joke in the UK), Melody Maker described the album as "surprisingly excellent", whilst the NME described it as "rather hysterical". I've always hated the NME...

Stonehenge Playlist 08-15-08


After leaving the Yardbirds, Keith Relf worked on a number of interesting projects, one of them being the last Steamhammer album 'Speech' in 1972. Following the dissolution of Steamhammer, Relf recruited Steamhammer's Martin Pugh and Louis Cennamo (who had also been in Renaissance), and Bobby Caldwell (of Captain Beyond and many more) to form Armageddon in 1974. Their self-titled debut was released in 1975, and is a true under-the-radar Classic Rock Album.

For those who've stumbled onto this blog (or our radio show, for that matter), every week on a Friday we play a truly classic rock album it's its entirety before 3 hours + of the very finest rock music you won't ever hear elsewhere.

This week our classic album was Peter Bardens' 'The Answer'. A great LP recorded with some of his friends in Fleetwood Mac before he joined a little known group called 'The Brew' and became a founder member of the legendary 'Camel'.

Fans will appreciate this live version of the centerpiece of the album "Homage to the God of Light", performed by Camel at an early show at the Marquee in London. It's available on the CD reissue of the debut self-titled Camel LP:

Ben had his wicked way with the listeners this week, blasting their third ears with Gong's masterful 'Flying Teapot' from 1973. It was the first album in their 'Radio Gnome Invisible' Trilogy and a masterpiece!
