Stonehenge Setlist 2/9/18

This weeks Classic Rock Lp is the 1969 self titled debut LP by the Chicago based band -- The Flock.
The star of the band was violinist Jerry Goodman.  The Flock recorded 2 lps before Clive Davis pulled Goodman from the band to play with the Mahavishnu Orchestra, filling a spot that was left open as Jean Luc Ponty was unable to get a US work visa.  The Flock reformed for one more 1975 lp before the band split up. There is a very cool write up on the back cover of the lp by John Mayall as he touted the Flock as one of the best new bands in the US.

Stonehenge Setlist 2/2/18

This weeks Classic Rock album is the incredible 1972 lp by the Groundhogs -- "Who will save the World ?"  This was the final installment in what is regarded as their trio of early 1970's masterpieces. Those 3 also include "Thank Christ for the Bomb" and "Split".  Tony McPhee is truly a British guitar legend.  Also check out the super gate fold lp cover - depicting the band as superheroes and drawn by the one and only, comic book artist - Neil Adams.  But don't let the fun cover fool you --- the songs are serious, both politically and socially motivated - great stuff.

Tonights Classic Rock lp was the first post Free lp by one of the great guitarist - Paul Kossoff -- "Back Street Crawler".  Although this was recorded after Paul left the band - all of the Free members performed on this record.  It was released in 1973.  Paul was truly one of the best guitarist of the Rock Era.  He was inspired to pick up the guitar again after seeing Eric Clapton playing with John Mayall's Blues Breakers.  He had learned to play classical guitar as a young man in London.  Paul sadly passed away at 25 but will always be remembered for his work with Black Cat Bones, Free as well as his solo recordings and with his last band Back Street Crawler.
