This week we thoroughly enjoyed a visit back to see the Small Faces in their transitional period between R&B Mod Rockers and freaky cockney psychedelicists, with their self-titled LP on Immediate records from 1967 (later released in the US as 'There Are But Four Small Faces').

It's a really fun album bursting with 2 - 3 minute memorable tunes and shows the band honing their already considerable skills as songwriters. Here's one of my favorites from the LP, 'Talk To You'. Those of you who are familiar with the Faces will not be surprised to see that they are in the pub already...

Back to it with some great self-titled debut album action from Wishbone Ash (1970) this week.

Apparently, it was during Wishbone Ash's tour with Deep Purple in 1970 that Andy Powell had the nerve to plug in and jam with Richie Blackmore during his soundcheck. Blackmore was impressed, and recommended the group to MCA, who subsequently signed the group and got Deep Purple producer Derek Lawrence to produce the album. What balls! Let's not forget that these guys were pioneers of the 'twin guitar' assault also made famous by Thin Lizzy. A glorious sound!

The band is still going, and giving great performances (the only constant member being Andy Powell). Here, a year after the first album, is the group, playing 'Vas Dis'.

For this week's Classic Rock Album special guest TVS was flying solo, and celebrated the 40th anniversary of the beyond ground-breaking LP King Crimson's 'In the Court of the Crimson King' by playing it from beginning to end to kick off the Show. This album was a game changer; for many it's the point at which Progressive Rock really took a form from the work laid down by the Beatles and their contemporaries. How about that screaming face? I wonder how many people made that face when they first encountered this brain melting LP?
